Audience, decision, and consequence gate
Record intended reader, situation, decision, geography, reversibility, plausible harm, article owner, and publication purpose. Pass when the contribution and refusal boundary are explicit. Review a low-consequence audience ambiguity. Fail a page that invites medical, legal, financial, safety, or other individualized action without the facts and professional relationship needed, or a plan whose only reason is search demand. Commercial value cannot override a consequence tier.

Claim inventory and risk route gate
List every material definition, mechanism, comparison, compatibility, performance, typicality, safety, diagnosis, interpretation, and recommendation. Map each to editor-only, editor-with-limit, specialist-review, or decline. Pass when the route is justified and the claim table is complete. Review a minor descriptive inference. Fail when high-confidence grammar hides an unrouted conclusion, when a generic disclaimer substitutes for claim control, or when one safe section is used to imply authority over the rest.

Evidence sufficiency and source-role gate
For each claim record primary material, independent corroboration, method quality, product and audience correspondence, conflict, date, limitation, and missing observation. Pass when source strength matches consequence and author competence includes interpretation. Review a low-impact unknown that is visibly bounded. Fail merchant copy recast as independent evidence, citation count replacing appraisal, inaccessible essential support, or a regulated conclusion drawn from a source the team cannot responsibly interpret.

Specialist assignment and version gate
Name reviewer, discipline, credential, jurisdiction, conflict, reviewed claims, evidence supplied, decision, article version, date, and next trigger. Pass with claim-specific sign-off. Review when the specialist narrows a lower-risk sentence and the editor implements it. Fail decorative “expert reviewed” language, anonymous approval, later edits outside scope, a reviewer asked to validate an unrelated discipline, or no qualified person available for a claim the article refuses to remove.

Independence, advertising, and disclosure gate
Record affiliate commission, sponsorship, gifts, product access, merchant review requests, and any outside-provided content. Keep editorial decision authority with the publication. SPJ urges independence, clear separation of advertising, and identification of outside material. Pass when readers can understand the relationship where it matters. Review a harmless administrative contact. Fail a hidden payment, favored evidentiary standard, merchant veto over criticism, sponsored copy presented as independent, or disclosure used as a substitute for accuracy.

Who, how, why, and correction gate
Publish author identity, relevant basis, research method, review scope, commercial purpose, checked date, correction route, and material revisions in proportion to the decision. Google’s framework makes these questions a useful self-audit. Pass when another editor can reconstruct the content’s origin and the reader can evaluate it. Review a missing nonmaterial process detail. Fail a generic team byline masking responsibility, unverifiable reviewer badge, silent correction, or metadata that continues to signal authority the page has withdrawn.

Expiry, monitoring, and refusal gate
Assign owners and triggers for credential lapse, reviewer departure, jurisdiction, product, evidence, source, regulation, complaint, or consequence change. Pass authorizes only the reviewed version and claim set. Reopen immediately after credible correction or scope expansion. Fail when no one can maintain a high-risk answer or when commercial pressure prevents refusal. Archive the decision explaining why a claim was removed. The audit cannot grant expertise; it ensures the publication does not imply more authority than its people and evidence can defend.
