Cross-format reuse begins with the performance or understanding the material should support, not the paragraphs, slides, or footage that currently contain it. An article, video, email, and live session create different opportunities for searching, timing, demonstration, prompting, dialogue, and feedback. An article supports scanning and reference; video supports motion and timing; email supports spaced prompts and return visits; live delivery supports adaptation and questions. Select only the affordances needed for the learner job.
Do not force an interaction into every format. A reference article may link to a task; an email may cue retrieval; a video may pause for prediction; a webinar may practice and debrief. The mechanism should be explicit. Completion or reach remains a distribution measure until learners demonstrate the objective.

Accessibility changes with the medium
CAST’s UDL Guidelines support multiple ways to engage with, perceive, and express learning. W3C’s media guidance adds concrete requirements for captions, transcripts, description of essential visuals, and accessible players when audio or video is used. An accessible article does not make its exported video accessible, and a captioned video does not ensure the companion task is operable.
Create a separate access plan for each version: structure and links for text; captions, transcript, description, and controls for video; semantic, responsive email; registration, captions, materials, and participation alternatives for live events. Create a format-specific evidence loop
For each version, define the learner action and feedback path. The article might offer a decision table and worked case; the video might demonstrate timing and ask for a parallel attempt; the email series might space retrieval and correction; the live session might adapt to questions. Use the same core rubric where the objective is the same, while recording supports and conditions.
Compare whether performance transfers across contexts, not whether every format has equal engagement. A person may use an article as reference and a live session for practice; their functions are complementary. Preserve contradictory cases and do not attribute business outcomes to format from a short comparison.
