Step 3: choose the first meaningful decision
Find the earliest point where learners can use the new idea rather than repeat it. Introduce only enough explanation, example, and language to support that decision. A worked example may show how an expert notices a cue and rejects an alternative. Then ask learners to decide on a parallel case. The attempt should reveal which prerequisite or reasoning step is missing.

Completion and satisfaction are useful but insufficient. Transfer evidence asks whether learners can select and use the capability in a changed context. One task cannot establish durable learning; use repeated, proportionate observations and preserve contradictory cases. Avoid promising universal outcomes from a polished pathway.

Step 6: run a learner-path walkthrough
Put the objective, prerequisite nodes, entry check, inputs, attempts, feedback branches, and transfer task on one page. Walk through as a learner with less prior knowledge and identify the first point where a required decision lacks preparation. Then walk through using keyboard, transcript or text alternative, and a constrained time window where appropriate. Assign an owner to each gap.
